Cortinarius praestigiosus (Fr.) Moser subgenus Telamonia Cap 1.5-4.5cm across; reddish brown with whitish bloom, edge lighter; hygrophanous. Gills adnate to almost free; yellowish ochre then rusty. Stem 30-60 x 4-l0mm, pallid with red-brown veil belts. Flesh marbled white and brown. Odor strong, radishy. Taste radishy. Spores ovoid, rough, 8-9 x 4-5µ, quotient 1.9. Deposit rusty brown. Habitat in coniferous woods. Found in Europe and Maine. Season September-October. Not edible. Comment Identified in Moser, this species needs further study in North America to confirm its identity. |
